Y.M. Raja Dato’ Dr. Abdul Aziz is passionate and enthused about communicating knowledge, insight, and perspectives on nuclear regulation, international cooperation, and peaceful nuclear technology.
Y.M. Raja Dato’ Dr. Abdul Aziz is the Principal Advisor at The eCEOs Sdn. Bhd. and Alypz Sdn. Bhd. He also currently serves as a Board Member of Malaysian Atomic Energy Licensing Board.
He brings over thirty years of experience in the nuclear industry, with expertise in nuclear security and safety, the management of radioactive waste and spent fuel and nuclear liability, as well as non-proliferation of nuclear weapons (NPT) on a national and international levels. He oversaw ensuring the safe operation of nuclear activities as well as the rare earth industry in Malaysia in accordance with national nuclear regulatory framework while serving as the Director General of the Atomic Energy Licencing Board (now known as the Department of Atomic Energy (Atom Malaysia) under the purview of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation.
He previously held the positions at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria, as a Director for Nuclear Security (DIR-NSNS), Department of Nuclear Safety and Security, as well as a Special Assistant to the Director General for Nuclear Sciences and Applications, and Technical Cooperation in the Director General’s Office for Coordination (DGOC). He has frequently been involved in advisory committees of the Malaysian government that are concerned with nuclear issues.
He received degrees in medical sciences from the University of Bradford in England in 1979, and in radiation biophysics from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland in 1986. In 2021, he awarded a doctorate (honoris causa, PhD) in nuclear sciences from Malaysia’s National University of Malaysia (UKM).
