Arbaaz is the Head of New Business for the Asia Pacific Region for ion. Prior to joining ion he worked as a management consultant for over 15 years in Asia and Africa (including consulting work in 17 countries). He has a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and a Masters in Energy, Environmental Technology and Economics. Arbaaz has extensive experience in sector policy frameworks, organisational and institutional assessments for power utilities.
He has recently delivered the Energy Storage Roadmap for Bangladesh as well as having served as Team Leader on various projects including Capacity Development for the Power Sector in Bangladesh, Technical Studies for Load Swing Power Plants, and Promoting and Facilitating the Uptake of EVs. He has served for the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) of the Government of Bangladesh, as Research Analyst at the Policy Coordination Unit of the PMO.
He has successfully scoped investment programmes for clients in Africa and Asia in transport and energy, as well as supported the Asian Development Bank in the scoping of USD 2 billion in investments in the power sector in Bangladesh. His experiences in South Asia include consulting assignments for the Department of Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Finance in India (2009-2011), in Nepal as a part of the team for Strengthening the Capacity of the Energy Sector to Deliver Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Results, and more recently for IFC assessing the potential for private sector participation in the transmission sector in Asia Pacific.
